In recent years, there has been a growing interest in the role of the private sector in the provision of public goods and services. This paper reviews the literature on the private provision of public goods, with a focus on the role of the private sector in the provision of infrastructure. It reviews the evidence on the impact of private involvement in infrastructure on economic growth, efficiency, and quality of service, and discusses the main policy challenges associated with the private provision of public goods.
